Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists
Dr. Karima earned a Bachelor’s Degree of Medicine and Surgery from the faculty of Medicine at Al-Fatah University, Libya in 1989, before attending the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists for her membership in 1997. She has the American Board of OB-GYN and the Arab Board of Medical Specialization.
After graduation, Dr. Karima joined Tripoli Central Hospital as an Intern Physician, where she worked in different departments until 1990, then moved to Al-Jala’a Maternity Hospital, Tripoli to start her OB-GYN residency program in 1993. She worked as a Senior Registrar of OB-GYN at Tripoli Medical Center, where she was responsible for the junior doctors and interns on duty until 2000. She has been a Senior OB-GYN doctor, performing normal, instrumental deliveries at Al Bushra Maternity Clinic.
Dr. Shmila decided to move to USA to pursue her career. She worked as an Interpreter, Patient/Family Services Coordinator at Barnes-Jewish Hospital until 2004, and then she went to Baraka Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic, where she worked as an assisting physician. Eventually, she moved to Carle Clinic until 2010. She completed her Residency Program at the department of OB-GYN at Marshall University School of Medicine, West Virginia, USA.
In 2008, Dr. Karima submitted a poster presentation at the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists District IV annual meeting; title “has modern ultrasound changed the clinical significance of minor ultrasound anomalies”.
Dr. Karima joined the IMC’s family in 2013 as a Consultant of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a caring mother of 3 children, she spend her leisure time reading and cooking.
