Acute Pain Service is an advanced care modality compared to the traditional modalities of treating acute pain and is tailored to the needs of each patient
Should you choose to request an advanced modality for your pain management, these are under the care of our Acute Pain Service (APS) team which is supervised by a consultant anesthesiologist specialized in acute pain, whom can help you with recommendations and advice that suit your needs.
Is a special programmed pump that you control by the press of a button which will inject a calculated amount of pain relieving medication into your vein
which is the infusion of local anesthesia solution through a small plastic catheter that is placed in a space outside the covering of the spinal cord using a special kit
is locating the nerve or injection site using ultrasound, then a local anesthesia solution is injected near the nerve(s) and this can give up to 24 hours of pain relief. If a catheter is used for longer duration of pain relief it is placed near the nerve and a solution of local anesthesia will be infused and this can be used for up to 5 days
of patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) and a nerve block
