The social worker plays a vital and essential role as the liaison between the patient and his family and the medical team to provide any social or emotional factors about the patient and his family in which it might affect the course of the treatment plan.

The social worker also coordinates meetings with the patient's family and the medical team to clarify the patient's medical situation as well as the treatment plan; discuss the patient discharge plan in cooperation with the Patient Discharge Team and make the necessary arrangements to secure the health care needs that some patients need in their homes after their discharge.

The role of the social worker is also to provide advice, guidance, and moral support to dispel any fear or anxiety patients and their families might have, moreover, providing patients with the best services and assistance to alleviate social and emotional problems that adversely affect the continuity of treatment.

The IMC's Social Service Department is a member of the Committee for Protection from Violence and Abuse; and is also concerned with cases that suffer from financial and social problems, in addition to dialysis cases and the elderly.

Please do not hesitate to call the nurse in-charge to make the necessary arrangements to facilitate your visit to the social worker before your discharge from the hospital.
