Rare Implantation of subcutaneous ICD and Epicardial Pacemaker at International Medical Center
The cardiology team at IMC scored a new medical success story, performing a rare subcutaneous Defibrillator as well as epicardial Pacemaker Implantation using modern technologies. The procedure was performed on a 50-year-old patient who was suffering from severe weakness in the heart muscle with severe Bradycardia.
All the necessary pre-operative examinations were conducted and the patient was diagnosed with severe Cardiomyopathy with complete heart block. Patient is on regular dialysis with recurrent fever and sepsis.
The cardiology team resorted to the aforementioned technology to perform the procedure because it eliminates any possibility of intracardiac infections. According to this technique, the device is implanted under the skin outside the heart and not as it’s routinely placed inside the heart.
